Toilet paper cakes are a popular cake trend right now thanks to the Covid craze. These cakes are not only funny, but a lot easier to make than you may think.
Toilet paper roll cakes were funny before, but in the midst of the Covid 19 craziness they’re even more funny. If you or a friend have found yourself being quarantined for your birthday, and still struggling to find toilet paper in the store, a toilet paper roll cake make just be the perfect birthday cake this year. We need all the laughter we can get right now! I also have a tutorial on how to make the poop emoji cupcakes.
How to make a toilet paper roll cake.
What you’ll need for your toilet paper cake.
- One 6″ 3 layer high cake frosted in vanilla buttercream. Get my favorite recipe here. This cake size gives the perfect toilet paper roll look.
- White fondant. You can make your own at home with my easy homemade marshmallow fondant or you can use store bought. This is my favorite store bought.
- A small amount of black fondant.
- Brown food coloring.
Cake decorating equipment you’ll need.
- An 8″ cake board.
- A turntable for frosting your cake.
- A non slid mat for your turntable.
- An icing spatula.
- Piping bags
- Knife or pizza cutter for cutting your fondant.
Step 1.
After baking and torting your cake layers, begin stacking and assembling your cake on an 8 inch cake board. Crumb coat and cover your cake in your vanilla buttercream.
Step 2.
Measure the height of you frosted cake and cut out a rectangle of white fondant, which will be the end of the toilet paper. You’ll want it hanging off the cake to resemble a real toilet paper roll. Lightly press the fondant into the side of the cake while letting the extra fall into place.
Step 3.
Cut out a small circle of black fondant and place in the center of the top of the cake. Place a small amount of vanilla buttercream in a piping bag (you don’t need a tip just cut off the very end of the bag) and pipe circles around the black circle of fondant until you reach the outside of the cake.
Step 4.
In a small bowl color a small amount of your buttercream icing brown. Pipe your message on the front of your cake. I get a lot of request for “Oh Crap Your Old”, which certainly fits the theme really well! I also take my brown icing and make one circle around my black fondant on top of the cake. This just gives it a little more detail.
And Voila!! You’ve made yourself (or your friend) a toilet paper cake!
Now go celebrate, laugh, and eat cake! And if you have any questions please let me know in the comments.
Happy decorating!
